"Don't you think it would be best if you were all snug in your bed?" he asked, turning the question around on her. He was leaving soon anyway, he was starting to miss his matress and pillow.

She smiled as Zero left, turning back her head back to look at Carter. "You know Officer it's none of your business where I sleep is it? But just to ease your mind I think it would be more logical if I sleep here instead of traveling all the way home. That could take weeks." Spade wasn't being nice, but the officer was pissing her off. He just wouldn't mind his own business.

"Ahh I see." And he did, but he figured he had bothered the girl enough. The rain was mostly gone and he was getting sleepy. He stood and streched, his back popping.
"Well, the rains stopped, so I'll let you newsies get back to your mayhem, Goodbye."
He walked out into the night and headed towards Queens.

Sighing as he left she was alone finally. Leaning her head back she looked up at the ceiling and closing her eyes drooped a little, but quickly she opened them wide. She didn't want to fall asleep, she couldn't. She was in the open and exposed. Spades eyes continued to droop and she was quickly asleep with Devils head in her lap.

It had been a few days since he and the Newsies had all been inside, staying out of the rain. He wasn't sure why he came back today. Maybe it was to check and see if that one newsie, what had her name been...Spain, Spare, no, Spade!. Maybe to check and see if she was still here.
It was also one of the few quiet places in Manhattan.

Devil started barking his head off when he heard someone enter the empty building. Obviously not so empty if someone had disrupted Devil. Walking out of one of the many rooms, the room she had made her bedroom in a sense, she walked towards the stairs. Oh great, that nosy officer. Just what I need. "Devil, thats enough. Come here NOW!" Walking so the officer could see her she said, "What do you want?"

He heard the dog barking first, before seeing her at the top of the stairs.
Well she was still here. Great.
"I don't want anything, what are you doing here?" it was almost a groan. This time he was going to stay away from the dog.

"Well why are you here then if you don't want anything? Your the first person I've seen here since the storms a few weeks ago and here you are now again. So again I ask, why are you here?" She ignored his second question, because she was sick of him asking that question. She needed some where to live and this was where she had picked.

What was it with newsies and their attitudes towards adults? First Conlon, now this Spade girl, and probably soon to be the rest of the newsie population. He was about tired of it.

"Ya know, this place would be quiet if you weren't here either. And you should listen to me, cuz I'm an officer of the law, I am authority." He didn't want to deal with her attitude so he decided to just leave and try and find somewhere else. He started towards the door.

Spade didn't really want to be alone, but she had to keep people away. Well she didn't have to keep people away but it was the easiest way. "umm srumm," she mumbled (I'm sorry). She sat down on the stairs and looked up at the officer. "Why do you need a quiet place?"

He stopped and turned back to the girl. It seemed as though she had mumbled some sort of apology. He leaned against the wall and crossed his arms, looking up to the ceiling and thinking about his family.
"Just a lot of stress, I need a place to get away and think. What about you? Why dont you just go to a lodging house somewhere, they aren't that bad." He replied turning his head back to her. He didn't like that kids were living on the streets, they should have homes.

She shrugged, "I don't really know. I like to live on my own and I might be a bit shy." She said the last as though it could never be true, but she had to say an answer. In all actuality it was completely true. She didn't like to meet new people. "Whats wrong?"
