Tumbler nodded. He may have been confused, but he knew that you always listened to Jack and did what he said. Even if you had tried to run away that morning. He stood up, his pain gone and still shorter than a sitting Jack, and walked into the bunkroom. On the way, he noticed that Rose, an older girl he seldom spoke to, didn't look entirely alright. He approached her.
"Are you okay?"

She smiled up at the boy and nodded. She didn't want to worry him, he seemed to have enough things to be worried about of his own.
She sat there biting back her pain, waiting for the younger boy to leave so she wouldn't have to be concerned about hiding her pain.. and her tears.

Jack stood up, following Tumbler a bit, running into Rose. He looked over her, his eyebrows rasing. "....Rose. What happened to you?" He kneeled in front of her. Oh being a leader. Crisis Managment.

"No, you're not," Tumbler frowned. Suddenly, his problems didn't seem to matter anymore. He felt Jack beside him, and heard his words.
"Jack, she's not okay. I can tell," he stated, trying to help.

Rose's smile remained, even through all the pain, "Dontcha worry about me," she said to both Jack and the boy, wincing a bit, "I'll be better in no time and this will all be but a memory. Don't let me put a damper on your day," she smirked a bit.
Her smile soon began to fade as she thought back to the incident on the bridge. Sure the soakin' hurt, but that's not what was getting to her... it was what had Sally said to her.

Jack put a hand on her shoulder. "Rose...stop it. I need to know what happened...someone soak ya?" There was concern in his eyes. He liked Rose--and he had to make sure there wasn't somone out there soaking his kids.

Rose nodded, "Wrong place, wrong time I s'pose." Wrong life.. that's what had gotten her into real trouble in the first place.
She looked at Jack, trying her best to keep a smile on. She turned her head away, closing her eyes. A tear began to fall down her cheek.

Jack side, making Rose look at him again gently, using a finger to wipe the tear away. "...and who was it? Morris? Oscar? Or another newsie?" Poor girl--most of his girls didn't hold up well under soakings.

Rose looked at Jack, letting out a soft sigh, "Said her name was Sally," she brought a hand to her stomach, swallowing her pain, "Sally Delancey."
She used her other hand to wipe off pieces of dirt from her face and hair. Maybe I am just a street rat, she thought to herself.

Tumbler wasn't very tall. He wasn't very tough. He wasn't even that wise. But Tumbler could always tell when somebody needed comfort. He pulled himself onto the bed and looked at Rose. They hadn't ever really met, but that didn't matter right now. This was more important.
"I got beat up today, too," he said to her quietly, hoping the empathy might help a little.

Rose turned to look at the boy, her eyes showed sympathy for him, but she didn't say anything.
She cleared her throat, and glanced towards Jack avoiding eye contact, "Well, I'm sure you have something better to do," she adjusted herself to get up, but remained seated, lacking the strength to stand up, "I'll be fine." She smiled.
She tilted her head down, now looking at her knees. She was a horrible liar, anyone who knew her could see right past her smile.

Jack raised an eyebrow. "...Sally...? I didn't even know they had a sister...juust great." He sighed and reached out, running a hand through Rose's hair a bit. Tumbler was trying to help, good for him. "Look...how about you go get cleaned up--both of you. I'll take ya out for soup." He figured it was the best thing he could do for them. He'd talk to some of his boys about the new Delancy later.

Rose smirked a bit, "That makes two of us," she said in response to his comment about Sally.
She fiddled with her thumbs, she wanted to go but.. "Why don't you two go without me. I think I'm going ta stay here and.." she wanted to tell him everything about the incident on the bridge, to just sit down and talk, but he didn't need that, "Think."
Rose remembered back to the pretzel cart when Jack told her if she ever needed anything just to ask. It's a lot easier said than done, she thought. She wasn't about to ask him to stay in with her, he probably needed a break to get out.
"Don't worry, sooner or later I'll drag you out of the abyss of your room again," she let out a soft laugh.

Tumbler sighed. To be completely honest, he wasn't to keen on going out either, with a fear that he would meet Lukas again. Or, of course, cause more trouble than had already been started. Besides, he wasn't in the mood for it. He just wanted to enjoy people's company, and be comfortable here....in his home, he supposed. Even if it didn't quite feel that way at the moment.
"I'll stay with you," he told Rose. "My name's Tumbler. You're Rose. I already knew that."

Jack sighed. He stood up. "Well...if you need me, I'm in my room." He wasn't going to press either of them. He was offering help, and if they didn't want it, they could deal with it on their own. He was their leader, not their keeper. "...I'll figure out an answer to the Sally issue though Rose." And he was going to talk to Lukas as well.
